The mission of Osage Orchards and Bois d’Arc Bioproducts is to create a sustainable agriculture based industry from the cultivation of the Osage orange (Maclura pomifera) tree and its fruit. The tree itself can be used for carbon sequestration and a number of agroforestery uses. The Osage orange fruit can be processed to produce renewable feedstock for biofuels, biochemicals and animal feed products.
Two businesses have been established around this concept. The first, Osage Orchards, concentrates on growing trees and retail sales of the tree saplings and its fruit. The second business Bois d’ Arc Bioproducts and Agroforestry Company, processes the fruit, produces bio-products and provides agroforestry services for ranches, farmers and urban governments.
